R. Matthew Walsh, MD, F.A.C.S.
Matthew Walsh is currently Chairman of General Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He came to Cleveland originally to train in HPB surgery with Robert Hermann, prior Chair of the Department of General Surgery.
He continued in the Department as faculty for the balance of his career, rising to Professor of Surgery at CWRU and awarded the Rich Family Distinguished Chair in Digestive Diseases. His interests lie in pancreatic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, endoscopy and education.
He has been honored with several teaching awards including the highest teaching excellence awards of the Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University.
Originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin he attended college in Nebraska and medical school in Wisconsin. His surgery residency was at Loyola University of Chicago and at Massachusetts General Hospital prior to his HPB Fellowship.
