Our Regional Initiative
About Stop the Bleed
In response to the increase in gun violence and mass casualty events in the country; the White House, Homeland Security and the American College of Surgeons came together after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. This collaboration came up with the ever growing education called “Stop the Bleed”.
This training is a national initiative and is designed to educate everyone; NOTS has made this one of our regional initiatives. All hospitals systems within NOTS offers this education.
What we are Doing
Our Goals:
- To train bystanders how to stop bleeding with dressing, compression, and tourniquets.
- To teach “Stop the Bleed” in all local schools; to teachers and students.
- To train law enforcement officers how to stop bleeding on victims, themselves along with their fellow officers.
- To empower medics, EMTs, firefighters and other healthcare professionals to teach “Stop the Bleed,” NOTS teaches the “Train the Trainer” course.
